Far Western University Central Office

Message from VC

Vice-Chancellor’s Appeal Fostered by peoples’ unprecedented activism, Far Western University was established in 2010 to advance higher educational opportunities in the region, to uphold the humanistic ideals, to raise the intellectual tone of the society, and to open up knowledge vaults for technological advancement and economic prosperity demanded by the competitive global culture. Today, even after a decade, this university stands at a critical juncture of promoting the high humanistic intellectual and cultural values, and of fulfilling the topical educational demands of scientific, technological and economic development by striking proper balance between pure and applied sciences with an intimate appeal of social responsibility. I am aware that university and its services are indisputably for collective public welfare. To work for the common interest, it has to maintain a symmetry between the autonomous dispositions of the university aiming to achieve the desired values and goals, efficiency and productivity, and the growing educational aspirations of the society. Achieving this equilibrium demands an earnest conviction of the university authorities, faculty, students, political leaders, civic society and the general public at large. The university has a social responsibility to meet peoples’ aspiration through the production of human resource useful for economic and social activities, but at the same time, it has to cultivate the human mind to protect, preserve and advocate academic ideals and standards of culture and knowledge. To attain these desirable goals, Far Western University has to ascertain independent academic structures and programs, as well as implement innovative strategies to transform the existing educational environment. I begin my responsibility with the solemn promise of fixing the academic and administrative structure and physical infrastructure of the university, making meaningful interventions in academic schedule, curricula, pedagogy, evaluation, and initiating improvements in campus library, laboratories, auditoriums, stationery and educational resource outlets, washrooms, eateries, sports and web connectivity facilities. I am convinced that Nepali education cannot be shaped until the faculty members, students, administrators, political actors and civic society unanimously pledge to observe a definite academic schedule. Equally important is envisioning new programs and advanced research degrees for developing the expertise of students and faculty within the university. Linking the university with other domestic and foreign universities for academic collaboration and enhancement is also imperative for it. People of Far Western Province aspire to see this university as a nascent center of advanced knowledge and learning, a place of scholarly sharing and churning of ideas, a locale of critical thoughts and ideas, and a hub of learning where not only reproduction, conservation and dissemination, but, importantly, the creation of knowledge is augmented. To achieve the desired mission, a passionate public commitment is crucial along with the conviction of the students, faculty members, administrative staff and the colleagues holding university leadership positions. With utmost decency and humility, I urge everyone to combine efforts to ensure that this university evolves as a beacon of knowledge and wisdom, a forum for cultivating and nurturing creative and critical minds ready and qualified to engage with the new world order.
